Star Wars ComLINKS: Favorite The Last Jedi Scene

Star Wars ComLINKS | Anakin and His Angel

Welcome to the twenty-fifth Star Wars ComLINKS! This the very first monthly link up centered around a galaxy far, far away. The purpose of this link up is to inspire fans to write/talk about various topics (which are assigned each month) pertaining to our favorite fandom. Each link up will take place on the second Wednesday of every month. You will be able to share a link to your Website, Blog, YouTube, Podcast, etc. on a special widget here on AAHA and also view other posts from fans!

The Topic for January is "Favorite The Last Jedi Scene" and begins today through January 24th!

After you've seen The Last Jedi with your favorite people once, twice, maybe even five times and enjoyed celebrating the most wonderful time of the year, we all want to know what your one favorite scene from the film was. Was it a scene that shocked you? That you hoped for? How did it resonate with you? What made it different from the rest of the film? These are just a few prompts to help you get started.

GUIDELINES

1) Your Website, Blog, YouTube, Podcast, etc. does NOT have to be SW related.
2) Your entry must be family-friendly.
3) Please include a link to (or mention) "Star Wars ComLINKS" in your entry and don't forget to use the hashtag #starwarscomlinks when applicable!

Star Wars ComLINKS | Anakin and His Angel

Having still only seen The Last Jedi once (don't ask) I don't know how vivid this action sequence between Ben, Rey, and the Praetorian Guards will be in my head. All I know is, I NEED to talk about it. But first, let's back up a little.

Prior to seeing the film I was hoping that Kylo and Rey would team up in some way. I adored the chemistry they had in their scenes together in The Force Awakens and was secretly hoping for another lightsaber battle where they were fighting alongside each other. I was also constantly going back and forth between the idea of them being a couple. Folks, I fell hard after seeing The Last Jedi and I'm now a Reylo fan. Even though I have well over three dozen Reylo fanart pieces saved to my phone and a document full of quotes, links to animated GIFs and everything else you can think of pertaining to these two characters, I'll be ok if they don't end up together in the final film of this trilogy. Because regardless of what their relationship is, it is a relationship. I recognize that the foundation is rocky and that they are surrounded by darkness, lies (thanks to Snoke) and an intense longing to fill an emptiness within themselves. Danger signs, I know. But behind all of that are two people who have a lot in common and who understand each other in a mysterious and intimate way. For all we know they could be related or perhaps even have had a past together that we are unaware of. Yes, I am one of those fans who believes that just because Ben saw who Rey's parents were doesn't make it true. Speaking of which, let's briefly discuss that force connection.

Star Wars ComLINKS | Anakin and His Angel
(Created by: Yours Truly)

I believe that Snoke knew that Kylo and Rey had a connection and used that to his advantage by creating a gateway to allow them to communicate. I believe this because of the interactions they had in The Force Awakes. Snoke may have opened the door to allow them to fully connect and create a future that both of them believed to be real but he didn't control their actions or words during that time. They chose to continue to converse with one another and they definitely chose to touch. Through this connection they gained a better understanding of each other and recognized the fact that they were both going through similar life circumstances though they were on very opposite sides. Rey thought she had Kylo all figured out. When she learned the truth of his tragic downfall, she felt for him and wanted to help him use his abilities for good. Rey, as we know, is someone Kylo has heard of and is obviously intrigued by for various reasons. He not only witnesses the power she has in the force but is also moved by her strong-will and compassion for him. I think, for both parties, this connection meant a lot to them. Rey was alone for the majority of her life and so to have someone with whom she felt so in tune with filled that empty hole. As for Ben, he didn't have anyone who believed him and saw him for who he was like Rey did. His father warned him that Snoke was using him, which I'm sure he was at least slightly aware of, but having heard that said aloud probably confirmed it for him and made him realize he literally had no one.

Before I get even deeper, because really I could go on and on about these two, I do want to get into the reasons why I love the Ben & Rey vs. the Praetorian Guards scene. Everything leading up to this battle made it all the more intense but I definitely have to say that I loved that there was only one moment when Director Rian Johnson took us to another scene to focus on someone else's story. All too often in film when an incredible moment just begins and it's about to reach it's peak of awesomeness the camera cuts to a different scene and you have to stop yourself from shouting (or maybe you have). This usually happens several times. However, this sequence is able to play out beautifully from beginning to end with one short cut. At several points we see unique lightsaber techniques used that we've never seen in any other films which makes this sequence all the more exciting. I was also pleasantly surprised by the Guards and the tactics they used with their various weapons. They put up a good fight!

Ben and Rey are more determined than ever, especially because at this point each of them believes that the other is going to join them. Can you imagine the intensity of the anxiety that each of them felt hoping that they would make it out alive in order to be able to have that conversation? Rey must think because Ben chose her over Snoke and destroyed him he must be on her side while Ben on the other hand must think because she's fighting with him against the guards she'll surely join him. In the mean time, they use their own unique abilities to coordinate with each other and struggle to survive the several guards who approach them with no mercy. I only say "struggle" because I think it's very clear that neither of them would've made it had the other not been there. Rey is still early in her training and while she holds her own pretty dang well, she's still a little rusty. And even Ben who has had years of training found it difficult to fight off several Guards at a time while keeping his eye on Rey and in the end found himself in a predicament that Rey helped him out of by tossing him her lightsaber. Speaking of aiding each other, I really love the moment when they are back-to-back and Ben allows Rey to lean against him while holding onto his thigh to kick at Guard. I couldn't help but think of the fact that it wasn't long ago that they were fighting each other and now to see how they partner together so gracefully is such a beautiful thing.

Overall, I really just loved the way this scene was put together. The visuals, the choreography, the music, everything. What about you? What did you think about this scene? Tell me your thoughts in a comment below and also let me know if you're interested in me writing more about my thoughts on Reylo. Because I definitely have more.

The Last Jedi Character Bag Clips Unboxing

If you ask me, starting 2018 off with brand new Star Wars blind bags by PhatMojo isn't bad at all! I was browsing around Target and found these The Last Jedi bag clips for $5.99 each near the Star Wars section at the end of an aisle where there were several blind bags and boxes displayed. I have not been able to find these online so I believe they have just been released. They are made really well and are obviously extremely cute. In the video below I open two of them but I think it's safe to say that I will not be able to withstand buying more.

Let me know what you think of these bag clips in a comment below and if you've found them in any stores near you!

What I Wore

Rey Speeder Dress: c/o Her Universe
Faux Leather Jacket: H&M (Similar)
Sequin Scarf (used as belt): Kohl's
Tights: Kohl's
Franco Sarto Heels: Nordstrom Rack
Velvet Choker: Hot Topic
Jason Wu Clutch: Gifted
Keychain: Smuggler's Bounty (The Last Jedi Box)

I've always liked the idea of Rey playing with the Dark Side a bit so that is where the inspiration for this look came from. I thought the best way to add a dark tone to my outfit was with all black accessories. They ended up really making the Rey Speeder Dress by Her Universe stand out which created the perfect contrast. By the way, this is the most comfortable dress I have ever worn. It's very soft, extremely stretchy and it has pockets - a feature that is highly sought after these days. I've only ever worn this dress with sandals and wedges so it was nice to style it for a Winter appropriate look that included pieces like tights, heels and a faux leather jacket. To add that little bit of extra Rey factor I opted to hang my new Funko Pop Rey keychain from The Last Jedi Smuggler's Bounty box on my clutch. I often enjoy finding new ways to style Star Wars pieces and the addition of the keychain was like the cherry on top! I felt both chic and comfortable while at the theater which is always a nice combination.

As always, I will share "Outfit Outtakes" from time to time on my social media pages and exclusive photos on my Patreon page. Be on the look out!

Star Wars 2018 Itty Bittys

It's a great day for Star Wars fans who love plushies! The official Hallmark 2018 Itty Bitty checklist has just been revealed and includes a handful of new Star Wars characters some of which are wonderfully surprising. According to Itty Bitty's Corner these checklists are starting to hit stores now so be sure to ask for one the next time you drop in.

Star Wars 2018 Itty Bittys | Anakin And His Angel

It has previously been reported that General Hux would be released in the Spring and he was often marketed with Lando which could mean he will also be available around that time. As you can see there are some Limited Edition plushies, an R2-D2 exclusive and a Clippys set of Han Solo and Chewbacca as well. Hopefully we will get more details on specific time frames when each of these Itty Bittys will be available to purchase real soon. The one I'm the most excited about? Why, Queen Amidala of course. It's not often that any new merchandise is made after her so I am quite thrilled! I think fans will also be stoked about the Darth Maul plushie - he is a must buy! It's so refreshing to see the Prequels represented in the new line and I can't wait to see them in person.

Which of these upcoming releases is your favorite?

Thanks to Masterpcollects for the photo.

Porg Christmas Guide

Porg Christmas Guide | Anakin and His Angel

I've been a fan of Porgs ever since my friend Nick over at Lumberjack Nick drew them (as seen above) after only reading a description of what they looked like. I'm obsessed with Star Wars and also have a serious weakness for chubby (aka "cute") things so you could say that I've been among the clouds of Bespin since discovering the Porgs. So many of us have become part of the Porg Nation that I felt my Christmas guide this year had to be focused on these adorable little creatures because there's so much stuff out there that you need to know about.

Smuggler's Bounty: The Last Jedi Unboxing

I'm always excited to receive the next Smuggler's Bounty box, the only Official Star Wars subscription box by Funko, in the mail. I may have just been a bit more anxious to get this one though considering how stoked I've been for The Last Jedi. This particular box is a unique one filled with fun items that are both familiar and new for Funko. There was one item that completely caught me off guard and that I was head over heels about that I can't wait for you guys to see! Everything in the box is exclusive so you won't be able to find anything that you see me unbox in my video below in stores. I hope you enjoy watching. Let me know in a comment if you also got this box and what your favorite item was!

What I Wore

Her Universe Sweatshirt: Kohl's
Super Stretch Jegging: American Eagle
Boots: Nordstrom
Headband: Forever 21
Choker: c/o Love & Madness
Ring: c/o Love & Madness

This "Outfit of the Day" is centered around a brand new piece by the Her Universe Activewear collection for Kohl's. You'll find both Light Side and Dark Side options in this comfortable and practical collection. As you know, I tend to go Dark Side but I instantly fell in love with the shade of this baby pink hooded sweatshirt. Considering the fact that I do say "May the Force Be With You" quite often, it seemed only fitting that this number came home with me. It's lighter than your typical sweatshirt which makes it suitable for layering. It also runs a little bigger (I'm wearing an XS) but I actually like the way it fits because it makes it all the more cozy to wear. Rather than outfitting it for a trip to the gym, I went for an every day Winter-inspired look and paired it with dark jeggings and boots. I accented this ensemble with a headband, a choker and a ring with the Star Wars logo on it which are both from Love & Madness, one of my favorite accessory brands. Oh, and I can't forget my new favorite backpack by Loungefly from Hot Topic! I love that I'm able to showcase my favorite buttons and pins without having to worry about any of them falling off or being stolen.

Everything in the collection is on sale right now and with it being Black Friday week there are extra discounts and coupons to be found that you can use on your purchases. There's no better time to invest in some high quality lounge and activewear than now!

As always, I will share "Outfit Outtakes" from time to time on my social media pages and exclusive photos on my Patreon page. Be on the look out!

Special thanks to my mom who never used a DSLR before and took these awesome photos for me! She rocks!

Star Wars ComLINKS: Favorite Quote

Star Wars ComLINKS | Anakin and His Angel

Welcome to the twenty-fourth Star Wars ComLINKS! This the very first monthly link up centered around a galaxy far, far away. The purpose of this link up is to inspire fans to write/talk about various topics (which are assigned each month) pertaining to our favorite fandom. The Topic for November is "Favorite Quote" and begins today through November 22nd!

Let's be honest, most of our favorite quotes are from the Star Wars films and cartoons. They're inspiring, witty and some of them we may even live by. If you were to pick one favorite quote, which would it be and why? Who says it? Do you own anything with this particular quote on it? These are just a few prompts to help you get started.

GUIDELINES

1) Your Website, Blog, YouTube, Podcast, etc. does NOT have to be SW related.

3) Please include a link to (or mention) "Star Wars ComLINKS" in your entry and don't forget to use the hashtag #starwarscomlinks when applicable!

Star Wars ComLINKS | Anakin and His Angel

"YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARK SIDE."

I have many favorite Star Wars quotes but this one always seems to the first one that comes to mind. The words Darth Vader speaks are just as powerful as his formidable voice. They always seem carefully chosen and so direct no one would dare question him. Well, except for Lando. This very line is something to be feared especially during this scene where he has a pivotal moment with Luke Skywalker on the forest moon of Endor.

In Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader meet again but now Luke knows who he is and refers to him as his father for the first time which stirs something up in Vader. He listens to Luke intently, his words clearly distracting him while he attempts to direct the conversation elsewhere by bringing attention to his newly constructed lightsaber (I imagine Vader must've had some sort of feeling of pride overlooking the hilt). However, Luke stays on target and without hesitation requests that he come with him. Vader turns away contemplating before replying with, "Obi-Wan once thought as you do. You don't know the power of the Dark Side. I must obey my master." I've always interpreted this line as a warning. Specifically for his son to be careful where he is treading. He knows this is all new for him and that his knowledge of the Dark Side is minuscule compared to his. Vader also knows that there is no turning back for him. The Emperor would respond with extreme consequences should he choose a different path. Luke, of course, stands his ground and continues to try and reason with his father. Finally, Vader expresses himself in a deeper way, "It is too late for me, son." As the Stormtroopers take Luke away to his new master, the Emperor, Vader is left alone to contemplate the last words his son left with him, "Then my father is truly dead." It's the first time, in the Original Trilogy, that we see Darth Vader show raw emotion in his struggle to choose good over evil - his son or his master. Though his face is masked you can feel every ounce of torment in his demeanor. With his hands grasping the rails and head hung low, the scene ends. Oh. My. Heart.

As you can see, this quote has a much deeper meaning for me besides the fact that it said by my favorite character. Vader's journey from boy to machine is a tragic journey but it has always meant a lot to me. Though this scene makes my heart heavy it's my favorite moment in Return of the Jedi because we see the same belief that Padme had in Anakin in Luke. At the same time we see the battle Vader is facing in trying to fight against letting Anakin Skywalker break through. There is so much history and meaning in those three short minutes and it's a tragic but beautiful picture.

What is your favorite quote? Don't be shy, participate in this month's ComLINKS!
