Star Wars Couple Q&A

Star Wars Couple Q&A | Anakin and His Angel

On May 15th, 2002, my husband Jason and I met in line for the midnight showing of Attack of the Clones. To celebrate this 16th anniversary we asked you if you'd be interested in a Q&A. We received some great questions concerning our relationship and love of Star Wars. Let's dig in!

Star Wars Couple Q&A | Anakin and His Angel

Q: "Which Star Wars couple do you feel you relate to?" - Nicola Adele

A: I would say that we relate to Kanan and Hera from Star Wars Rebels the most. I've always thought that Jason and I were like two puzzle pieces that were made to fit together and that's how I see Kanan and Hera too. We really make a great team! Kanan also puts everyone above himself including Hera and Jason has always done that. He would sacrifice his life for mine in a second. I also admire the great display of love and support Kanan and Hera show one another and I think that's something we are fortunate to have as well. - Jenmarie

A: It would have to be Anakin and Padme because she is often the only one who can calm him down (when he's being a not-so-nice baddie), and he is like a bull that sees red if she is ever in danger. He cares for her so deeply that he sometimes does really unwise things to try to protect (or impress) her. - Jason

Star Wars Couple Q&A | Anakin and His Angel

Q: "Which movie is your favorite? Debate on why if you have different favorites."
- Stephanie

A: My favorite Star Wars movies are: The Empire Strikes Back, Revenge of the Sith, and The Force Awakens. It's funny because I like TESB and ROTS because, in my opinion, they are the darkest films but also the most romantic. TFA on the other hand is completely the opposite but it really struck a cord with me. I found it completely exhilarating and appreciated the way the familiar characters I loved were handled (well, for the most part) and I absolutely loved the introduction of the new characters. It also means a lot to me because I've always had a huge passion for Star Wars but there was this long period of time where there was barely any new Star Wars content being released and I was kind of at a loss of how to celebrate my fandom. Disney buying Lucasfilm was exactly what I needed although when I first heard the news I was adamant that we didn't need a Star Wars sequel. - Jenmarie

A: Return of the Jedi. There is no debate. ...No matter what she says.

But seriously, I am often drawn to simplistic stories/ideas (when done well), and I like when a movie follows the traditional flow from the introduction to building the stakes, to raising the stakes, to resolving things. I like the fact that there is resolution in Jedi. There is a climax. There are tremendous stakes, peril, wonderful action, fun humor, and great drama that all come together and actually go somewhere and wrap up as a complete story (not knocking the amazing TESB, but I personally tend to enjoy a good denouement more than a cliffhanger). I think the drama between Luke and Vader is perhaps the strongest drama between two characters in all of the Original Trilogy, matched only by maybe Luke and Yodi (we call him Yodi because, why not?). Beyond that, the Emporer is terrifically, disgustingly, awesomely wretched - one of the best movie villains ever, in my opinion. Also, I have always LOVED LOVED LOVED space battles, and the Battle of Endor is my favorite space battle in all of Star Wars. Even after the whatever-eth time watching this movie over the last 30 years, I still get goosebumps at certain parts. I could go on and on and on.

Plus, Ewoks. 'Nuff said. And, tough guys out there that pretend you hate ROTJ because of the "muppets," you know deep down, you adore them. -Jason

Star Wars Couple Q&A | Anakin and His Angel

Q: "What Star Wars related gifts have you gifted each other over the years?"
- Perry Glaze

A: Jason absolutely gets a kick out of Salacious Crumb. Like, I'm talking laughing so hard you can't even hear anything. When I found out the Salacious Talking Plush was cancelled by Underground Toys I turned to Amazon and was able to get him one at a fairly decent price. He sits on our couch along with my large Jabba Tsum Tsum. The perfect pairing! I also got him a PSVR which isn't exactly a Star Wars item but without it he wouldn't have been able to experience the X-Wing VR Mission on Star Wars Battlefront I. The first time he played it was an absolute blast! I sat and watched him and he was like a kid seeing Star Wars for the first time. - Jenmarie

A: Sooo... In 2005, at our local midnight showing for ROTS, I wanted to show Jennifer (my friend at the time - we weren't even dating yet) a Darth Vader Force FX lightsaber that I had bought myself in anticipation of the movie, so I grabbed it from my truck to show it off. Well, Jen lit up with excitement, thinking that I had bought it for her as a gift (that was probably my fault, considering the way I showed her the 'surprise'). She said "FOR ME???" So... "...Yep!" I grinned through a clenched, somewhat painful smile, and handed it to her. How could I say no? She was so cute and I'll be darned if I'm going to be the guy who looks a woman with such childlike wonder and joy in the eye and says "No lightsaber for you!" So, I relinquished the Force FX Lightsaber. It did, actually, make me happy to do so.

...Then I married her to get it back. - Jason

Star Wars Couple Q&A | Anakin and His Angel

Q: "Did you realize from the start that you both had a geek side or did that come out later in your relationship?" - Chloe

A: Considering the fact that Jason was dressed as a Sith in line for Star Wars when I first met him I knew he was a pretty big fan! As we got to know each other through long emails that we sent each other every day I realized that he LOVED movies and also enjoyed a lot of the same fandoms I liked. In fact, we had this game where we would include a movie quote in the subject of the email and had to guess which movie it was from in our reply. I loved that! Anyhow, we enjoy DC, Marvel (specifically X-men), and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies as well as MANY other franchises and films. He's not a big Disney fan but that's ok. He still watches my favorites with me and goes to Disneyland with me from time to time. What a guy!- Jenmarie

A: I still object to the 'Geek' or 'Nerd' label, not because it hurts my feelings or makes me embarrassed or anything, but because I just don't think it is accurate. I think it is simply Pop-Culture, which obviously is short for Popular-Culture. I think it is fast-becoming the most popular segment of Pop-Culture, so I don't see it as some niche corner of the market that only 'geeks' or 'nerds' would occupy.
...Okay, off my soapbox... I probably am a geeky, nerdy geek-nerd.

I think we knew right away because that's how you get to know a person - you talk about things that you each like. What was excellent was that, a lot of the time, we liked the same things. Not to mention the fact that we were BOTH dressed up when we first met at the opening night of a Star Wars movie. - Jason

Star Wars Couple Q&A | Anakin and His Angel

Q: "How was your wedding?" - Zelia Poet

A: We got married on August 30, 2008. Our wedding had a black, red and white theme with silver accents and was definitely on the more traditional and fancy side. My dress reminded me very much of Belle's gold gown that she wears when dancing with the Beast which is one of the reasons I loved it so much (I couldn't find the photos I wanted to share of it but I will at a later time). There surprisingly wasn't very much Star Wars involved but we did have the Throne Room Theme Song played when we were announced as Husband and Wife which was pretty epic! Overall it was very much of a fairy tale night that we celebrated with over two hundred of our family and friends under the stars. - Jenmarie

Star Wars Couple Q&A | Anakin and His Angel

Q: "What was his/your pick up line?" - Katey Jansma

A: Honestly, SHE approached ME. I had seen her walk by a few times, and the circle of guys that I was there with at the time (the midnight showing for AOTC) kept making comments to each other about her every time she passed by - respectful ones, I assure you. Anyway... She finally came up to me with this wild story about how she had a website dedicated to Star Wars and she wanted to interview me for it. OBVIOUSLY, she quickly created a site once she saw me so that she had a plausible excuse to get my personal information and stalk me. LOGIC.
- Jason

Star Wars Couple Q&A | Anakin and His Angel

Q: "As a couple, what is your biggest Star Wars debate?" - Nicola Adele

A: Our biggest debate, even though it's a running joke that we've been teasing each other about for the LONGEST time, is who is the bigger Star Wars fan? But just recently Jason had a confession to make and actually told me that I was. Which I always knew anyways. :P - Jenmarie

A: For years, it has been "Who is the bigger Star Wars fan?" My one-on-one (and otherwise) winning record at Star Wars Trivial Pursuit was my go-to for claiming that title for myself. Duh. But recently, I came to realize... She is. She just is.
- Jason

Rose Gold Ita Backpack Review & Decorating

When my friend Jackie from Lantern Pins released her Rose Gold Ita Bag I knew I had no choice buy to get one. Rose gold is one of my favorite colors and I had been wanting to get another backpack to display even more of my buttons and pins in a fun and secure way. When I finally received it in the mail I was astonished at how bright and beautiful it was (trust me when I say the photos really don't do it justice). Not only is this bag a gorgeous rose gold shade but it's also holographic making it very much of a standout fashion accessory. It's made very well though it's not as thick as my Heart Cutout Mini Backpack Loungefly but that's just because it's made of a lighter material (PVC to be exact). Please understand this is not a negative feature, it holds literally everything I need and will be able to carry even more for my trips to Disneyland! It's quite sturdy, super comfortable to wear and the zipper works as smooth as Bantha Milk (not that I've tried it or anything). Overall I am extremely satisfied with this backpack and would highly recommend it to anyone who has been thinking about one especially if you're wanting to display your buttons and pins without having to worry about them falling off or being stolen. It's only $25 and also comes in black and silver!

Most of my buttons and pins are a collection of the things I am most obsessed with which is obviously Star Wars and Disney. I love being able to express myself with accessories such as these because it just feels like me. Before the button/pin phase started I had many that I collected overtime but I was really never able to wear them. Then I started seeing fans pinning them to their denim jackets or vests and inserting them into newly designed backpacks that were made for the purpose of displaying buttons/pins in a safe way.

I like to start decorating the front panel of my backpack by choosing some of my favorite buttons/pins and others that I haven't showcased in a while. I also like to choose buttons of different sizes and pins with various shapes. I think this gives the overall appearance a characterized look that has different textures and colors. When pinning them in place I like to have the backpack faced upright but away from me so that I can easily reach in to attach them inside and out to grab more! I personally like to make sure my buttons and pins are spread out evenly for a clean look but you can decorate yours any way you want to. Some people don't mind attaching them to the fabric but others will use a thick sheet of paper that they size and cut to fit inside so as to help prevent the fabric from being ruined. This may happen if you consistently update your backpack but so far I haven't had a problem. However, I do want try the paper trick sometime if I can find one that looks nice enough and will compliment the backpack.

Rose Gold Ita Backpack Review & Decorating | Anakin and His Angel
(Full Size)

If you're wondering, I've only ever had one or two buttons/pins come undone before. The nice thing is if and when it does happen they just fall to the bottom of the bag because there is no way for them to fall outside of it. I find that using pouches to store items you need to carry that might get caught on the buttons/pins on the inside helps to prevent this from happening. I don't consider this a downside at all since it provides more organization which is essential for any type of bag or backpack you're carrying.

Rose Gold Ita Backpack Review & Decorating | Anakin and His Angel
(Full Size)

Note: I realized after editing the photo above that the fabric of the inside pocket got pushed down at the top revealing the inside of the bag. This normally does not happen and might have been due to an item that was oddly placed inside or the weight of the pin at the top.

Curious as to where all my buttons and pins are from? I thought you might be. I've included a list below. Items are listed from top to bottom and left to right:

Galactic Porg - Lantern Pins

Jabba the Hutt - Hot Topic
(Available to purchase here)

Ghost Obi-Wan - Black Series Rebels

Dinah (AIW) - Sharodactyl

Darth Vader - Black Series Rebels

Tsum Tsum Taun Taun - My D Pins

Super Mario Death Star - Unknown
(Purchased at a convention long ago)

Maleficent - Disneyland

Eleven - BoxLunch

Chewbacca - Black Series Rebels

Caterpillar - Sharodactyl

Han Solo - Black Series Rebels

Kylo Ren - Smuggler's Bounty Box

Queen Amidala - 100 Soft
(Star Wars Celebration Exclusive)

Special shout out to Jackie who is a super sweet friend and a delight to work with! She's extremely hardworking and very passionate about her products. Give her a follow on Instagram to see more of her work and to stay updated on new products she has in the works.

I hope this review of the Rose Gold Ita Bag and my tips on decorating it helped or inspired you! Please let me know if you have any questions at all!

Star Wars ComLINKS: Favorite Bounty Hunter | Anakin and His Angel

Some of you might not know that I'm a casual Boba Fett Fan. I even contribute to the Boba Fett Fan Club's social media pages which mostly consists of fashion, new merch and flash sales. But I'd be lying if I told you that he is my favorite out of all of the Bounty Hunters in the Star Wars Universe. So who's the lucky guy? Why, it's the ruthless tooth pick using Duros known as Cad Bane of course. The idea for this character was originally created by George Lucas himself during old drafts from the Original Star Wars Trilogy and was thankfully brought to life by the Supervising Director of The Clone Wars, Dave Filoni.

Did you know?

The character of Cad Bane was based on Lee Van Cleef's "Angel Eyes" from The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.

Star Wars ComLINKS: Favorite Bounty Hunter | Anakin and His Angel

When we were first introduced to Cad Bane in Star Wars: The Clone Wars in the episode Hostage Crisis I was instantly hooked. Bane is that guy who's in charge and everyone knows it. Even fellow Bounty Hunters know their place when he's around. In this particular episode he leads Aurra Sing, IG-86, Robonino, Shahan Alama and even a few droids to assist him in taking several Senators hostage on Coruscant in an attempt to free Zero the Hutt. We learn very quickly that he will do whatever is necessary to get what he wants and we see repeatedly throughout the series that if he's compensated according to his terms he'll take on any job and eliminate anyone who comes in his way. Here's a clip from the episode Evil Plans as a reminder:

Did you know?

At Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017, Dave Filoni revealed an unfinished and unaired episode of The Clone Wars featuring Cad Bane and Boba Fett in a show down. In this episode we find out how Boba got the dent on his helmet which was another idea George Lucas had.

Watch the episode here!

Star Wars ComLINKS: Favorite Bounty Hunter | Anakin and His Angel

Cad Bane has that cowboy vibe about him that demands everyone's attention. He's so good even the worst of the worst (Palpatine anyone?) hire him for the most complex and dirty jobs that they know only he can accomplish. I think this is one of the reasons I like him so much. He's confident and determined and gets the job done! I also love seeing Cad Bane in battle. His fighting techniques are agile and precise and he has everything from blasters to wrist gauntlets to make sure he comes out alive. He's also killed and fought many Jedi so if that doesn't tell you that he means business, I don't know what will! As for his attire, the hat and coat are my favorite pieces because I love the bold statements they make. The breathing tubes also make for a unique and edgy look and are said to aid him in harsh atmospheres and prevent him from being force choked. I haven't seen this confirmed anywhere but I do like these theories!

If there was one feature that I could choose that I think makes the character of Cad Bane I would say it's his voice. It's calm but cool with a slight computerized vibe about it. I think it's safe to say that he has one of the best voices in all of Star Wars. Am I right?

Did you know?

Cad Bane's iconic toothpick was originally intended to be a cigarette, but the idea was dropped due to its negative and commercial-like message.

-Wookieepedia

Star Wars ComLINKS: Favorite Bounty Hunter | Anakin and His Angel

My hope is that some day we'll see Cad Bane again in a future Star Wars project because he is such a well rounded character that I was obviously quite fascinated by and I would very much like to not only know more about him but see his story concluded.

Tell me, who is your favorite Bounty Hunter? Write a post or discuss it on your podcast and if you don't have time for that, leave a comment below and tell me why they're your favorite!

Star Wars Menswear: Spring Edition

Star Wars Menswear: Spring Edition | Anakin and His Angel

Everyone knows that I am super passionate about women's Star Wars fashion but I also happen to really care about men's Star Wars fashion. I'm always on the look out for new pieces besides t-shirts that all look the same that guys can incorporate into their every day style. A couple of years ago I did a round-up of menswear products that my male readers responded really well to. I thought it had been too long, so here's a Spring-themed list of items I've recently found that you might not have seen yet.

Star Wars Menswear: Spring Edition | Anakin and His Angel
Kohl's | $21.99

This button down has several familiar icons mixed in with the floral print that creates an eye catching pattern. Florals are everywhere this Spring and let's face it, some dudes just rock this look! It's basically the new Hawaiian shirt trend, so if you used to have a few of those in your closet you might as well try the new modern approach. This number is currently on sale at Kohl's and is available in sizes S - XXL.

Star Wars Menswear: Spring Edition | Anakin and His Angel
Foster Grant | $20

Everyone needs a good pair of classic aviators and if they're Boba Fett themed no one's going to argue that you have the coolest shades around. I really like the subtle design (noticed the mandalorian symbol on the left lense) and the fact that they come with a matching soft case. Most importantly, they have 100% UVA and UVB protection and are only $20!

Star Wars Menswear: Spring Edition | Anakin and His Angel
BoxLunch | $23.12

Her Universe recently launched the Solo collection which includes new pieces in the Our Universe line. Available in sizes XS - XXXL, these super soft lounge shorts are made of 100% cotton making them perfect for those lazy weekend days playing with the kids or for a quick trip to the store. The pattern features Chewbacca, a Stormtrooper and Enfys Nest! That price is the sale price so add these to your shopping cart now!

Star Wars Menswear: Spring Edition | Anakin and His Angel
BoxLunch | $23.92

For some men hats are their go to accessory, for others it's that item they grab when they need to run out the door because there was no time for a hair check. This snapback hat is The Last Jedi themed and is very simple in style meaning it'll go with pretty much anything you're wearing! Grab it fast because it's currently on sale!

Star Wars Menswear: Spring Edition | Anakin and His Angel
BoxLunch | $23.12

This is one of the greatest Lando shirts from the upcoming film that I have seen yet! I mean, look at that face! If you're also a fan of Lando and are in need of something to wear to the movie, this might be the perfect option for you. Plus, it's 100% cotton and I definitely believe in being comfortable while at the theater. This shirt is currently on sale and is available in sizes XS - XXXL.

Star Wars Menswear: Spring Edition | Anakin and His Angel
Kohl's | $28

Whether you're a business man or have an important event coming up to go to this tie screams classy. There's no shame in donning your favorite fandom in a subtle way either so if you've been on the fence about it, take that leap! If this color or print aren't your favorite, Kohl's also has several other Star Wars ties. Hurry, they're all on sale for $28 (regularly $40)!

Star Wars Menswear: Spring Edition | Anakin and His Angel
ASOS | $36

Bright colors and abstracts prints are another trend that's quite popular right now. If you're about this style and also like the minimalist Star Wars approach to fashion, be sure to check out the current Star Wars collection at ASOS. This shirt has Aurebesh covering the base of the shirt and the colors give me major Boba Fett vibes. This shirt is available in XXS - XXXXL and is currently on sale!

Tell me, which of these is your favorite? I hope you enjoyed this round-up because I'll have another coming out in the Summer and every season after. Stay tuned!

Style Wars: Ethereal Empire

Style Wars: Ethereal Empire | Anakin and His Angel

Style Wars is an original quarterly series that is a combination of both Jenmarie and Savanna's two favorite passions - Star Wars and fashion. Together they will be styling Star Wars outfits based off of the same fashion piece. Their mission for this fashion series is to show off how different fangirls envision outfitting Star Wars clothes in their own unique way. Instead of comparing who wore it best, they want to celebrate the different ways Star Wars pieces can be worn.

Style Wars: Ethereal Empire | Anakin and His Angel

One of the things that I love about this Galactic Empire Kimono by Think Geek are the tiny Galactic Empire logos that are mixed in with the floral print which truly makes it a minimalistic Star Wars fashion piece. It's super feminine, lightweight and it makes layering easy for the warmer months ahead. I also love the look of a colorful kimono worn over a turtle neck which can really cheer things up during gloomier weather. So realistically this kimono can be worn year round! Oh, and I can't forget the fringe. How fun is that? Keep in mind that you do have to tie a knot or bow to create sleeves on the kimono. However, I realized it wasn't really an issue as it's not something that's very visible while wearing because of the amount of fabric there is. Overall I really love the colors, the pattern and the quality of this product and would recommend purchasing it asap if you also like it because it's actually on sale at the moment for $19.99 (normally $24.99).

Be sure to visit Savanna's blog, The Dorky Diva, to see how she styled the kimono!

WHAT I WORE

Kimono: Think Geek
T-Shirt: Victoria's Secret
Skirt: H&M
Franco Sarto Sandals: eBay
Stevie Bag: Brighton Collectibles
Choker: Hot Topic

When I found this skirt on clearance at H&M for $7 (I'm not even joking) I immediately thought of the kimono and how unexpected it would be to pair the two pieces together. I had never styled an outfit like this before and I can honestly say that I love the results! I decided to keep my top simple so as not to take away from the kimono. As for accessories, I wore a velvet navy choker and a pair of brand new Franco Sarto Gili sandals I scored for $12 on eBay. I guess I'm just all about those deals lately? I also somehow got myself away from my backpacks that I've been using and went for my favorite black tote. This is honestly something I would wear day-to-day but I can also see myself wearing it out on a date by swapping out my sandals for a pair of wedges and the bag for a clutch. Simple adjustments like these make transitioning from day to night super simple! You'll see what I'm talking about on Savanna's post.

Please let Savanna and I both know what you think of our outfits in a comment below or on Twitter and stay tuned for our next Style Wars in July! In the mean time, remember to check or blogs regularly as we will continue to provide our own style-centered posts as well.

As always, I will share "Outfit Outtakes" from time to time on my social media pages and exclusive photos on my Patreon page. Be on the look out!

What I Wore:

Rey Leggings: Think Geek
Tunic: Nordstrom Rack
Slingbacks: Payless
Jason Wu Clutch: Gifted
Choker: Hot Topic
Porgs: Funko
TLJ Novel: Target

I love these Rey Leggings by Think Geek not only because Rey is one of my favorite characters in Star Wars but because my husband Jason gave them to me as one of my Birthday gifts in January. He isn't one to shop for fashion pieces for me so I was very shocked upon receiving them!

These leggings are on-size-fits-all which, I know, sounds questionable. I was worried about the length since I'm just a couple inches over five feet but I found that wearing them like high-waisted jeans created a decent fit. They're actually very comfortable and I love the quality. The first day I wore them out a guy at Home Depot told me, "Those are the coolest leggings I've ever seen!". I'd have to agree. And guess what!? They're still available to purchase from the Think Geek website for $24.99.

I just so happened to have a tunic that I got a couple of years ago from Nordstrom Rack that matched perfectly with the leggings. I love the bold color and feel it really brings attention to the Rey wording and Rebel symbol on the leggings. I decided to dress up this outfit with some slingbacks I've had forever from Payless, an adorable clutch by Jason Wu for Target that my friend Casee gave to me, and a Choker from Hot Topic because I rarely wear any other necklaces besides chokers these days. The thing I love about the tunic and leggings combo is that it's a look you can wear throughout the year and a combination that you can easily dress up or down. Plus, long flowy tops and leggings are extremely comfortable.

My two new little buddies, aka the cutest Porgs ever by Funko (from the Galactic Plushies line), joined me on my shoot and were fascinated by The Last Jedi novel by Jason Fry. Who else has read it or is currently reading it? That first chapter totally caught me off guard. What an incredible way to start things off! I'm still only 3 chapters in and not because I dislike it but because I find it difficult to sit down and read. If you have any tips, I am all ears!
